Suffering for Fashion

22 Jun

I’d say I’m a pretty low maintenance gal. Please ignore that funny sound you just heard, it was a collective snort from all of the people who know me in real life and can’t believe I uttered those words with a straight face. I’ll admit that they’re partly correct. I am, in fact, a dedicated girly girl who enjoys shopping, cute shoes, and outfits that are heavy on sequins and the color pink. This girly girl, however, can get ready in less than three minutes flat and spends a large amount of her time dressed in too big sweatpants and ill-fitting t-shirts.

I know what you’re thinking, how is that fabulous lady with the impeccable fashion sense still single?! Trust me, it’s a question I ask myself daily. ;)

In my defense, I never wear that kind of outfit out of the house. If there’s a chance that I might run into anyone that isn’t blood-related to me than I always make the effort to put on actual clothes.

I bet you're wondering why I take all of my pictures in a bathroom. Habit, I guess. :)

Ok, you’re right, I don’t usually wear a mini skirt and thigh high boots out in public either. Being in Vegas for New Year’s Eve required a little something extra. If I’d been able to find something with sequins that would have also kept me warm, you can bet serious money that I would have been rocking some serious sparkles.

Alas, no matter how much I love to wear adorable things and to look put together, I generally refuse to suffer for fashion. All of my clothes are comfortable and easy to throw on without too much effort, I rarely spend more than 5 minutes on my hair, and my makeup routine consists of foundation, bronzer, lip gloss, and mascara.

My usual look on casual days.

I have one exception to my no suffering for fashion rule and that’s shoes. I will willingly strap on the most painful shoes known to man as long as they’re cute.

High heels. Flats. Boots. Whatever. If I like the way they look then I’ll wear them no matter how uncomfortable they are. I know it’s silly to wear shoes if they hurt your feet, but I’m just vain enough to do it anyway.

What’s even more silly (and alarming) is that my mini-BFF Joey is just as vain about her footwear.

She’s the only five-year-old I know who insists on wearing shoes that give her blisters and hurt her feet just because they’re cute. As you can see, she’s totally my mini-me in more ways than one. Even though I’m not worried about my feet, I do worry about hers so I’ve been trying to teach her the idea of “fashionable AND functional” shoes. Joey is still skeptical, but we’re both working on overcoming our shoe vanity. Uffda, it is hard work being a good example for your mini-BFF.

Am I the only one who wears uncomfortable shoes just because they look good? How do you suffer for your “fashion?”
